Books in Bloom Gets the Ax

Books in Bloom, the literary jewel set in Eureka Springs, the library-sponsored event that has gained national recognition for its contribution to literacy and the love of books in this region, will not take place in 2011.

Why not?

According to the Books in Bloom site,

With great reluctance and sorrow, the Carroll and Madison Public Library Foundation must announce the decision to suspend Books in Bloom 2011 due to circumstances having nothing to do with the foundation or the festival. It’s an unfortunate case of collateral damage.

Plans for this year’s festival were well underway, but a political situation has arisen in one of our counties that the Board members felt would seriously impact our ability to put on another successful event.  –Books in Bloom site

The “political reasons” are not elaborated.
