Denver Professor Offers Essay Workshop at September 5, 2013

Creative nonfiction veteran Doug Hesse will offer an evening workshop on essay writing September 5, 2013 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Fayetteville Public Library. He will focus on strategies that skilled writers of personal essays and short memoirs use to make their writing compelling to others.

Hesse is the founding Executive Director of the Writing Program at the University of Denver and Professor of English. He is author of some 55 essays and co-author of four books, most recently Creating Nonfiction, co-authored with Becky Bradway Hesse. The Simon and Schuster Handbook for Writers, Tenth Edition with Lynn Quitman Troika was published in October 2012.

He coordinates the Norman Mailer/NCTE National High School and College Writing Awards in Creative Nonfiction. His interests are in rhetoric, composition, and creative nonfiction.
The workshop, offered from 5:30-7:00 in the Fayetteville Public Library September 5, is free but registration is required.
