Nightbird Books, 205 W. Dickson Street in Fayetteville, hosts four book clubs and a combination writing workshop and book study. Here they are, together with the selections for May:

Poetry Book Club, first Wednesday of the month, 5:30-7 pm

Mystery Book Club, second Thursday, 6:30-7:30 pm

Science Fiction Book Club, fourth Monday, 7-8 pm

Fiction Book Club, fourth Thursday, 5:30-6:30 pm
The Corrections: A Novel, by Jonathan Franzen

Writing Workshop and Book Study, Fridays, 10 am-Noon
Brown Girl Dreaming, by Jaqueline Woodson

Maeve Maddox writes about popular culture, English usage, and education. Her most recent books are WORD RAGE, a guide to peaceful coexistence as American English-speakers, and THE FABERGE FLUTE, a cozy mystery set in 1980s London.
