Nancy Hartney Adds Poetry to Her Portfolio
Already known for her deft hand with the short story, Arkansas author Nancy Hartney has added published poet to her credentials.
Her poem “April 30, 1975: An Ending with Footnotes” has been selected for May publication by Dash Literary Journal, California State University, Fullerton, California. The poem is based on the last day the United States maintained in Vietnam. It calls attention to that era and reflects on wars since then.
“Before the Kudzu” will be published in the 2018 Spring issue of Stonecrop Magazine, a publication of the College of Western Idaho, Nampa, Idaho.
The online journal Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, Washington, North Carolina, will publish three of Hartney’s poems in July: “The Honeymoon, “Things We Collect,” and “If You Walk Long Enough (with apologies to Alice of Wonderland).”
Hartney’s short stories have appeared in two regional anthologies, Voices and Echoes of the Ozarks. Her western tales have been featured in Cactus Country, Frontier Tales, and Rough Country. Since 2013, she has published two collections of short stories: Washed in Water: Tales from the South (2013) and If the Creek Don’t Rise (2016). Both books are available through Pen-L Publishing and Amazon.
Hartney also authors freelance articles on a variety of topics and is a frequent contributor to The Chronicle of the Horse, Sidelines, Horsemen’s Roundup, Arkansas Life, DoSouth, Fayetteville Free Weekly and American Iron. She is a member of Ozark Writers League (Missouri), Ozark Creative Writers (Arkansas), Tallahassee Writers Association (Florida), and Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc. Not content with her already impressive command of genres, she is currently working on a novel.
