HISTORICAL FICTION TECHNIQUES UNWRAPPED: A How-to Workshop for Writers with Raymona Marie Anderson on March 15 at 3:00pm, Ann Henry Board Room, Fayetteville Public Library. Registration is required.
Historical fiction is defined as a story set in the past. This workshop offers techniques for keeping the story and characters focused without overwhelming the reader with the grand sweep of history. Carefully chosen period details—language, technology, beliefs, clothing—bring life to places, events, and people within the structure of the novel. Your characters are individuals with quirks, secret desires, and attitudes different from contemporary society. Workshop participants learn new techniques and review various writing elements to make their historical fiction come alive.
An Oklahoma native now living in Bentonville, Raymona Marie Anderson has written for publication for more than 40 years. She worked as a reporter, a stringer, and freelance writer for various weekly and daily newspapers while her feature and travel articles have appeared in numerous regionally and nationally circulated publications.
The author is active in the Writers’ Guild of Arkansas, Ozark Writers’ League, and, as a charter member, the Oklahoma Writers’ Federation. She conducts workshops and has acted as contest judge for fiction and non-fiction categories for OWFI’s annual competition.
Two Hearts in Time, Anderson’s time travel historical novel set in Yucatán was released 2015 byThe Wild Rose Press. One of her two earlier historical novels, A Woman to Reckon With placed first in OWFI’s unpublished novel category and is currently under revision for The Wild Rose Press.
